No New Friends?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the experience, whether it was good or bad- not quite sure yet!  of seeing who were my real friends and who weren’t. Now, this can be such a good thing being delivered to you in the shittiest of packages but let’s be real- nobody wants to open a shitty package! But nevertheless, it has happened and here I am face to face with it all.

As a teenager growing up, that’s when you have the most friends. At this point in life is when people have the most in common. Everybody’s interests are basically the same so it’s quite easy to befriend everyone.

Once you get to adulthood however, it’s quite different. Everyone’s interests are no longer the same and everyone goes on their own paths which may or may not include you. The friends you choose to keep however, are the ones you would usually take with you through the rest of your life. They would be there when you get married, for the birth of your kids, for every birthday and the list goes on. These friends would be the foundation of your sanity. So choose them wisely!

Very often we tend to make the mistake of placing one or two people in there with our forever friends. Don’t be fooled by the ones that pretend to have your best interest compared to the ones who actually do. When you become an adult, that’s when the reality of the categories of friends and associates becomes a necessity.

Think about it, adulthood is the serious part of your life where you tend to only focus your energy on career and family, not drama. So keep it clean, keep it classy and choose wisely!

The True Test Of Being Engaged…

Want to know if you can REALLY spend the rest of your life with your partner? GET ENGAGED!

Despite being one of the happiest and most exciting moments of your life and your relationship, it can also be one of the most trying. From the time you get engaged, you’re over the moon, on cloud 9 and can’t wait to tell everyone the big news. You and your partner have basically entered honeymoon phase all over again. You are head over heels in love and can’t wait to spend the rest of your lives with each other – it’s everything out of a movie and it is perfect!

So where does the true test come in? Well, fast forward a few months and welcome to the real test!

Remember all those idiosyncrasies in your partner you thought were so cute for well… the entirety of your relationship? Would they still be so adorable when faced with it every single day for the rest of your life? What about the silly little things you argue about? Would you be willing to keep having silly arguments forever? What about their friends? What about their long or sometimes too short work hours? What about their ambition or lack of? Maybe they nag, maybe they have a hot temper…

Being engaged is a period that can either make or break your relationship with your future spouse. Your entire relationship is placed under a magnifying glass at this point! Would you be willing to go through your entire life dealing with what may have seemed like harmless problems before? This is one of the reasons why some couples do not make it past their engagements.  At this point you no longer consider your partner to be expendable. Now, because they are seen in a more permanent light, the question of “can I spend the rest of my life with this person?” becomes a more serious one because once you say those two magical words, that’s it!

In my opinion I feel like it’s more beneficial to be engaged for at least a year just so you go into your marriage well prepared. You’ll be surprised what that year or two can teach you about your partner, yourself and life.

If you’re a bride like me who still loves all her fiancé’s quirks…the many he has 😀 , then you’ve already started on the right path. But if you’re still struggling with accepting them as part of your life forever, don’t worry just take some time to yourself and you’ll be okay. Remember why you fell for them in the first place 🙂

Being A Girl Boss In This World And Finding Your Own Tribe

We are all familiar with Beyoncé’s “Who runs the world? GIRLS!” right? Well, this is for every woman who is trying to break through on her own and do her own thing.

Us women have to inspire and support each other because that is what’s going to help us grow as individuals as well as grow our businesses. We have to find like-minded people  who can connect, understand and inspire us, who we are and who we are trying to become.

When you’re trying to build a business from the ground up, it can be really taxing to have to explain yourself and your new ideas or dreams to those closest to you because they just don’t get it! Who really has the time for that nonsense? This is where your Girl Boss Tribe comes in! Find mentors or those who are in the same situation as you, those who are now trying to break through on their own, those who are just as shy, nerve wracked and stressed as you! Find them! Befriend them!

By nature, us women are very strong, intelligent, resilient and powerful beings. We are focused and committed when we need to be and these qualities are exactly what emanates when it comes to our businesses.  That’s what makes a great foundation for whatever we are trying to build. And that is exactly what will take us to the top! Along with our little tribe of course!

You cannot constantly surround yourself with people who are not on the same page as you in this life, nor those who are unable to support, drive or inspire you. Step out of your comfort zone and create a support system that works for you. This support system will take you places you’ve never been before. It will help elevate your life, career – everything!

Be a Girl Boss because you’ve found something you’re good at and something you love to do, run with it and create a legacy!

Find your Tribe because when things get tough, you’re gonna need that support. Sometimes you just need your girls with wine glasses in hands and a box of pizza on the table in front of you. They’d understand the struggles of troublesome clients, slow days, long days and days of no sleep because guess what? They’re either going through the same damn thing or have done so before and can offer you the world of advice to get you where you need to be!

It’s tough being a Girl Boss, but it’s worth it! ❤

Now put on some lipstick and go take over the world!

Just Sprinkle A Little Glitter Everywhere You Go

Recently, we have been seeing one of the most recent and most popular trends in the beauty industry- Glitter! Who doesn’t want to vamp up their look with a little sparkle? From red carpets to runways to YouTube sensations, it seems like everyone has jumped on this glitter train and who can really blame them?

To create any look using glitter, one must possess at least two products in one’s makeup arsenal:

  1. An all purpose glitter glue. I recently got my hands on the NYX Glitter Primer– This formula is light and creamy and serves the purpose of keeping every speck of glitter right where it’s supposed to be. I used this primer as a base for creating a glitter liner cut crease and it worked most successfully. I love the consistency and the formula as it does not get tacky nor clumpy when trying to apply. For me, this is definitely a keeper!

  1. Glitter! Duh! For the look I created I used Inglot AMC Pure Pigment eyeshadow in 115. This shade is the prettiest shade of light pink, iridescent with a hint of gold. I am absolutely in  love with it! You can use this pigment to top off eyeshadow in cases where you need a little more pop or you can create your own glitter liner as I did. Either way, it works beautifully!

Once you’ve got these two products in under you sleeve, you’re already on your way to creating any glitter look!

Feeling Inspired When You Lose Motivation…

Let’s face it, we all lose motivation at some point in time. There are days when you wake up and you can hardly wait to go conquer the world. I’ve had about a month straight of those days. I felt so inspired every morning that I would feel like a force that needed to be reckoned with. Then, I went on vacation and got caught up in other things, losing sight of my goals and progress. Once you get to a point of relaxation, I find it very difficult to pull yourself out of it and get back to your regularly scheduled program.

Do not allow yourself to get stuck in an unproductive rot. This can be very dangerous for obvious reasons, especially if you are like me and in the process of building a business from the ground up. This means that your attention needs to be focused on your business 100% of the time! My business requires me to constantly be active on social media and to constantly market myself and my services. Without this, there is no business! Without business, there is no money and without money, there is no life- let’s be real!

Here are some tips that can help you get back to your beautiful, inspired self once again:

  1. Remind yourself why you got into your hobbies or field of work in the first place. I usually look at YouTube videos or Instagram accounts of my favorite makeup artists for some inspiration. Doing this tends to reawaken the passion I have for my art and my skill as a makeup artist. It can also aid in giving you fresh, new ideas if you happen to be stuck in a creative rot.
  2. Ensure your work space and environment is best suited for productivity. “There is a direct correlation between an increased sphere of comfort and getting what you want”- Timothy Ferriss. Look around your room or your workspace. Does it inspire you? Does it give you motivation? Is it peaceful and soothing? Is it quiet or loud? Is it distracting? Sometimes the hardest thing we do to ourselves is work in a place that we know is going to have us produce mediocre results. Build your ideal workplace and choose your ideal work time. What works for some, may not work for others. So don’t worry if you choose to work at 2am when your spouse and family are asleep. Do what you need to do to get to where you need to be.
  3. Don’t over-work yourself! Take a break, recharge, then continue with a fresh mind. This way, you feel motivated for longer.
  4. Remind yourself what you are trying to accomplish, set goals, set timelines and remember why you are doing it.  This will surely jolt you into action once again!

And don’t worry, it happens to the best of us. You are great at what you do! So take a breather, drink some tea, eat some cake and get back to it! 🙂

Hope these tips help!

When On Vacation…….

For the past month I have been on vacation and thus have not been working on my blog nor any other projects that require my attention. To me, work and vacation just do not go hand in hand as much as I would like it too! I actually came on vacation with the intention of getting some work done but as time went by and activities started filling my days, all work went “bye-bye” out the window. I think, for one to be able to get work done whilst being on vacation, they ought to have a strict sense of responsibility, determination and self motivation. I thought I embodied these traits! But from this experience, I am seeing that I clearly need to work on some things!

I have found it to be extremely difficult to be inspired, motivated and diligent when being faced with the hot sun, a cold Starbucks, shopping, exploring and spending time with my family. Some days I think, where has the time gone! I suppose I ought to feel good about the intent of getting the work done. But on the other hand, I haven’t actually gone through with it so who am I really kidding here?

But without further ado, I am back at it!

To be successful at anything in this life, you need commitment, self motivation and a “no excuses” type of attitude. Once you adopt these traits, you’ll be fit to completely obliterate your goals and be ready to establish and realize new ones.

Feel free to let me know how you balance work and vacation! 🙂

Stop those Munchies!

If animals and babies know to eat only when they’re hungry and to stop eating when they’re comfortable, then what the hell is wrong with the rest of us? Why do we feel the need to have dessert after a filling meal? Why do we crave snacks and drinks even though we’re not hungry or thirsty? and why do we have a hard time with portion control when it comes to our favorite meals? All of these are challenging for me and I’m sure most of you as well!

I believe that the culprits for these munchies are lack of self control, lack of sleep, stress, depression, hormones and the way our society has conditioned us! I know whenever I feel the least bit stressed, I reach for junk food and whatever snacks I can find lying around, whether I’m hungry or not! Horrible right!

Most of us also tend to be multi-tasking eaters. We eat while we’re on the computer, watching TV, reading and even when socializing. For some reason, we feel the need to have something in front of us to munch on. But what we don’t know, is that our stomachs have “stretch receptors,” which send a signal of satiety to our brain when food hits our stomach to tell us “we’re full!” However, that signal does not work if we’re eating while distracted! So, the key to not overeating is to steer clear from distractions while chowing down. I know this may be difficult at first but it’ll just take a little getting used too and actually remembering to do so!

For me, as a child, my home always had snacks lying around so naturally when I felt hungry, I’d nibble on whatever there was, then go back outside to play. What a happy life! Back then, I used to eat like a bird, never having an actual full meal. I had the smallest appetite ever! But with getting older, naturally everything started changing. I started snacking more and filling up on junk food. I am naturally a petite person, measuring about 5ft maybe 2 inches at most. So, if and when I went overboard with my horrid eating habits, it would definitely become noticeable.

Because of this, I started practicing portion control so as to not go overboard. Two (2) pounds gained on me can look like a lot compared to 2 pounds gained on an average sized human. At first it will be difficult, but you’ll get the hang of it. When I first started, I found it was easy to just cut down the portion sizes of my regular everyday food. I hadn’t changed my diet yet simply because I wanted to get used to the new portion sizes first. It’s also easier to take baby steps into things like this, especially if it’s all new to you. It’s helpful to use a smaller plate size for your meals rather than what you’re usually used to. You can fill up a little plate and it will still be less than what you would’ve been having on your regular sized plate. This tricks the mind into thinking you won’t need more than what’s there in front of you. Once you get the portion control down, you can start adjusting your diet bit by bit.

  1. Cut out excessively sugary drinks and snacks!– I found that when I did this, the cravings weren’t as strong as before!
  2. Substitutions! – if you’re craving something sweet, like chocolate, have a dark chocolate instead, it’s healthier than regular milk chocolate, it helps to lower blood pressure and is filled with antioxidants. You can also try apple slices dipped in a bit of peanut butter for a cool snack. No matter what crazy snack you feel for, there is always a healthier alternative!

To curb your appetite, try not eating way past into the night. If you’re like me and stay up until ungodly hours watching Netflix, and you start feeling munch-ish, drink a cup of tea and nibble on some mixed nuts- that usually fills me up for the night. Once you start incorporating these tips, you should begin to feel a bit more in control. Remember to be conscious of what and how much you’re consuming.

Hope this helps your munchies! 😉
